Mercuryalerts detects fraud and saves thousands in merchant processing fees

New E-notification Technology from Mercury Payment Systems Uncovers More than Missed Batches

Las Vegas, NV —July 14, 2008 —Integrated payments processor, Mercury Payment Systems released its instant notification system, MercuryAlerts™, at the Retail Solutions Providers Association (RSPA) RetailNow 2008 Summer Convention and Expo held July 12 -17, in Las Vegas, NV.

Since previewing the new technology to Mercury’s partners in the second quarter of 2008, hundreds of resellers have activated MercuryAlerts. The free e-notification system helps Mercury’s partners detect and prevent merchant processing irregularities that can lead to bigger problems, such as missed batches.

“Missed batches can be a real pain point for resellers, who then have to deal with unpaid - and unhappy - merchants,” said Steve Wilson, Vice President of Merchant Sales at Mercury. “Once MercuryAlerts is activated, resellers know right away if their merchants need help.”

The tool is completely customizable: resellers decide what notifications to receive as well who receives them. Resellers can choose to be notified about batch close, purchase, return, percentage keyed, and idle time. These settings can apply to individual merchants or an entire group. If a limit is exceeded in any chosen category, an e-mail will be sent alerting everyone designated on the account.

MercuryAlerts helps resellers strengthen client relations and offer preventative support. After just one week of using MercuryAlerts, POS dealership Delaware Business Systems (DBS), corrected 10 merchant processing issues, saved merchants thousands in processing fees, and deposited over $70,000 in unclaimed funds.

Another merchant benefit is fraud protection. Unusual activity flagged early on by MercuryAlerts led DBS to uncover two cases of fraud: managers abused their POS access and issuing credits to their personal debit cards.

“MercuryAlerts puts the right tools in the hands of resellers, the people best suited to help merchants, and facilitates proactive customer service,” noted DBS Operations Manager, Bill Fultz.
